Event organiser
ILBIJERRI Theatre Company, presented by Sydney Festival (Blak Out)
About this event
THE LINE is a new play by award-winning Trawlwoolway and Palawa playwright Nathan Maynard, co-directed with Dr Rachael Maza AM for ILBIJERRI Theatre Company. It centres on 'The Black Line' of October 1830, when more than 2,200 soldiers and settlers formed a human chain across lutruwita/Tasmania to forcibly displace Palawa people. The story follows a widowed settler and her Palawa servant whose relationship is pushed to extremes, while the play loops across time to connect the Frontier Wars with the present. The world premiere season plays the Sydney Opera House Drama Theatre as part of Sydney Festival's Blak Out program.
