About this event
Giiyong Ganya is a new, more intimate Aboriginal-led gathering at Jigamy on Thaua Country, launched by Twofold Aboriginal Corporation as the sister event to the Giiyong Festival, which becomes biennial from 2027. The day brings public cultural workshops, followed by a free in-the-round evening concert of music, digital art and storytelling. Giiyong means come to welcome, and ganya means camp or home — Giiyong Ganya reads as welcome home, or welcome to camp. The event draws on Elders' memories of the old times when community camped together at places like Haycock Point and Jigamy, sharing food and knowledge around the fire. In the week beforehand, Twofold Aboriginal Corporation runs skills development programs in music, art and cultural practice for local Aboriginal artists and Cultural leaders, with learning opportunities aimed especially at young people.
Good to know
The organisers welcome people with access needs and ask that specific requirements be arranged with them beforehand. Car and coach parking and public toilets are available on site, and Jigamy is a non-smoking venue. Start and finish times had not been announced when this listing was created — the organisers say more information is being released in the coming weeks.
