About this event
How the Birds Got Their Colours is a Yugambeh story, and this spring it is told on the Sydney Opera House Forecourt. Living Sculptures is created by ARC Circus with the Yugambeh Aboriginal Dancers and led by Luther Cora, bringing the story to life at large scale through sculpture, circus and dance — how the birds of this country, once all the same, came to wear the colours they wear now. The performance is free, outdoors and about thirty minutes long, and it plays twice each morning across five days. It is made for families, and for anyone walking past the harbour who wants to stop and be told a story that has been carried here for a very long time. Presented by Sydney Opera House as part of its Wild Things program for children and families, on Gadigal Country. This performance: Friday 2 October at 10:30am. Living Sculptures plays ten free performances across five days on the Sydney Opera House Forecourt — Friday 2 October to Tuesday 6 October 2026, at 10:30am and 11:30am each day. Every performance is listed separately on Blak Nation so you can pick the day and time that suits.
Good to know
Free and outdoors on the Sydney Opera House Forecourt. No ticket or registration is required — simply arrive before the performance starts. Each performance runs for about 30 minutes. All ages, and children aged 15 and under must be accompanied by an adult. The Forecourt is wheelchair accessible.
