About this event
Indigenous Literacy Day is an annual national celebration of First Nations peoples' stories, cultures and languages, produced and presented by the Indigenous Literacy Foundation in collaboration with Sydney Opera House. This year's program is themed 'Country Is Our Teacher' and features a film following two children, Niningka and Chris, living on Warlpiri and Arrernte Country in Nyirripi and Mparntwe (Alice Springs), sharing language and stories from the Central Desert. Following the film, a livestreamed celebration from Sydney Opera House will include song, storytelling and further learning about Aboriginal cultures, including a spotlight on remote community authors from Warakurna, Western Australia, celebrating the launch of their book 'My Walk Through the Seasons on Ngaanyatjarra Country'. The program is designed for schools and learners of all ages across Australia.
Good to know
All that is needed is an internet connection; the program is non-interactive so any number of students can participate together. An email with access links to watch the film and livestream will be sent the day before the event, becoming live at 10:30am (AEST) on the day. Teacher resources and classroom activities will be provided separately by email at a later date.
