FOCUS First Nation Films 2027

About this event

FOCUS First Nation Films is a truth-telling film festival presented by the City of Fremantle, bringing together First Nations filmmakers, artists and cultural leaders to share stories that explore past and present truths while celebrating community, culture and connection. The festival features a family-focused afternoon program of selected short films made by and with First Nations creators of all ages, from school students to independent artists and community groups. A centrepiece of the event is the Walyalup Oration, where leading thinkers in Indigenous/colonial relations share insights on creating a fairer and more reconciled future. In 2027 the festival will be held for the first time on 26 January, offering an inclusive and respectful alternative to Australia Day.
