About this event
Burra Bumal is a First Nations youth dance program presented by Campbelltown Arts Centre in partnership with NAISDA Dance College, and this is the showcase where a year of work is shared with community. Through the program, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people from Campbelltown and the surrounding region explore their creative voice through artistic mentorship in dance, cultural knowledge and performance skills, guided by Elders, established dance artists and promising young First Nations contemporary dancers. The group has worked with facilitators Kiarn Doyle and Hannah Hansen, with cultural guidance from Elders Aunty Annette Houston and Uncle Phil Dotti. The showcase brings that mentorship onto the stage in the Arts Centre's Performance Studio: new dance made by young people, on Dharawal Country, in front of the families and community who have backed them the whole way. Burra Bumal sits alongside the program's free in-school dance workshops for high schools across Western Sydney and the Macarthur region, and forms part of Campbelltown Arts Centre's ongoing First Nations and youth arts programming.
