About this event
Spend a day weaving with Trina Dalton-Oogjes, a Wadawurrung and Gunditjmara woman, at the Koorie Heritage Trust. Trina works with raffia, coiling and stitching vessels and forms that carry the marks of the maker's own hand. In this workshop she shares the fundamentals of raffia weaving alongside more experimental approaches to the practice, so there is room to play with shape, colour and texture rather than follow a single set pattern. Weaving is one of the oldest continuing cultural practices on this continent, and the Koorie Heritage Trust builds its workshop program around learning it directly from First Nations makers. Beginners are genuinely welcome — no previous experience is needed — and weavers who already have a practice will find space to push it further. The workshop runs for four hours in the Trust's home in the Birrarung Building at Federation Square, on the Country of the Kulin Nations.

Booking is essential through the TryBooking link on the Koorie Heritage Trust's What's On page, and places are strictly limited. Tools and some materials are provided, and you are welcome to bring your own materials to work with. Light catering is included. Beginners are welcome and no previous weaving experience is needed; the Trust publishes no minimum age for the session.
