About this event
Kindred People is an Indigenous-led festival presented by Monash University across its campuses on Boonwurrung Country, themed Awaken murrup — awaken the spirit. The festival is an open invitation to listen, learn and come together, bringing global First Nations artists, Elders, Knowledge Holders, students and community into ceremony, performance, dialogue, music, literature and time spent on Country. The Boonwurrung concept kummargi yulendj gadhaba, knowledge rising up together, sits at its heart. The program is curated by Gunditjmara man Tom Molyneux with an Indigenous Steering Committee, and is guided with cultural authority by Senior Boonwurrung Elder Professor N'arwee't Carolyn Briggs AM. Program highlights include the world premiere of The Scarecrow & Waa, the Australian premiere of He Huia Kaimanawa, the Victorian premiere of UPU, Tanderrum Dambali, Voices of the Land with Shellie Morris AO, Two Blood, Blakademia and a First Nations community day. Everyone is welcome.
Good to know
Each program item has its own time, venue and booking. The festival uses indoor and outdoor spaces across the Clayton, Caulfield and Peninsula campuses, and visitor parking is available at each. Monash advises that venue accessibility details, including mobility access and assisted listening, are released ahead of the festival. Food and drink is available across festival sites, prepared with First Nations caterers and partners.
