Darebin Arts, City of Darebin — FUSE Festival
About this event
Ganbu Gulin: Burndap, neto! opens the Darebin FUSE Festival with a free First Nations celebration of music and art at Darebin Arts Centre and Ray Bramham Gardens. Translated from Woi-wurrung, Ganbu Gulin means "One Mob: Deadly, Now!", marking the evolution of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander arts into contemporary practices that are bold, innovative and intrinsically collaborative. The afternoon opens with a Welcome to Wurundjeri Country and Smoking Ceremony led by Uncle Bill Nicholson, hosted by MC Kimmie Lovegrove, with performances by Mo'Ju, Liv & The Dream and the intergenerational Djirri Djirri Dancers. Elijah Money leads a kids' bracelet and charm making workshop and Aunty Brenda returns with arts and crafts for the whole family. Curated by First Nations programmer Ethan Savage with Wurundjeri curatorial advisor Stacie Nicholson-Piper, the event sits within the Deadly Darebin program strand, which highlights the innovation and cultural leadership of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander creatives.
