About this event
For many Aboriginal people, deadly means excellent or very good – and that's exactly what this welcoming, hands-on cultural experience with respected Nyoongar man Derek Nannup promises to be! Step into the sand circle to learn from the knowledge, skills and cultural practices that have been shared for generations. Creative activities vary throughout the holidays sessions and may include sand art, woven headbands, model shelter building or making and throwing a traditional kylie (throwing stick), making every session a unique experience. What to expect Collaborate to build a life-sized traditional kalak (winter shelter). Discover traditional Aboriginal technologies, tools and natural materials. Create your own cultural artwork or handmade keepsake to take home. Explore authentic artefacts, stories and traditions with Derek Nannup. Enjoy an engaging and interactive introduction to Nyoongar culture. We'll supply everything you need, just bring a snack and a water bottle. This is a wonderful opportunity for children to connect with one of the world's oldest living cultures through creativity, storytelling and hands-on discovery as well as a dad joke or two!
