About this event

A morning of Aboriginal cultural learning and hands-on craft at Moe Library, hosted by Latrobe Community Health Service and facilitated by the YAWA Network. Uncle Lloyd Hood opens the session with a Welcome to Country. From there the morning moves through storytelling and cultural learning into making: Indigenous jewellery crafted from traditional and natural materials, didgeridoo and clap-stick demonstrations, ochre hand painting, and a community artwork that everyone contributes to. The session is built for local Commonwealth Home Support Programme providers, community partners and staff of services working with older people and with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members across Gippsland. It is cultural learning through doing rather than through a slide deck — three hours of sitting alongside people, listening, and making something with your hands. It is delivered in partnership with Gippsland Multicultural Services and Central Gippsland Health Service. Moe is on Gunaikurnai Country.

Good to know

Held in the Community Meeting Room at the east end of Moe Library. Catering is provided and places are strictly limited, so booking through the TryBooking link circulated by Latrobe Community Health Service is essential. The session is intended for local Commonwealth Home Support Programme providers, community partners and staff of relevant services rather than the general public. Contact Latrobe Community Health Service to obtain the booking link and to confirm access requirements.
